Triple Sweet 16, Mar 2005Event - Well actually a "Double Sweet 16", since only two young ladies turned 16 and the third one turned 15. But anyway, a private party to celebrate the birthdays of three young ladies, two of whom actually threw the party, while the third... well... partied... a lot:) Excellent people (read: gorgeous looking girls), excellent party (read: free food & drinks:) - all in all I enjoyed it so much that I didn't even care when my camera finally broke down for good during the whole thing. The rest of the pictures from the shoot can be seen here.
Photography - Yes, my camera died. With the infamous "ERR 99" as the last thing he (she?) said to me before departing this earthly world. And it wasn't a lens imcompatibility, bad contacts or dead battery either. It was the realization of the fears and nightmares of all Digital Rebel owners and supposedly the most horrendous of all Canon camera failures, a confirmed hadware malfunction - a dead shutter. I was just 4 days away from selling my camera (my camera is currently up for auction and the ending date is within a couple of days) and had just shot picture number 52 517 when... "it was time". After tinkering with my camera for a day and trying every trick in the book to bring it back from the dead, I gave up and paid a visit to my local Canon repairshop. The interesting thing is that the certified technician there said that I had been lucky to have hit 50 000 at all. In his experience most DRebels break down already at the 30 000 to 35 000 mark. Hmm, something to think about.
Oh why couldn't I have sold my DRebel 5000 pictures earlier. 5000 pictures would have been PLENTY for a moderate user and would have allowed such a user to enjoy the camera for a long time before failure. Then again, I'm probably happier selling the camera with a newly replaced shutter with official Canon warranty than with a heavily used shutter with 52 000 exposures and no warranty whatsoever, even if paying for the new shutter and repairs out of my own pocket just days before selling the camera. Yeah, "what a bummer", but if the shutter had broken down immediately AFTER the sale of the camera, that would have sucked even more, since even without any warrantly I would probably have agreed to take the camera back, ending up with a wasted auction effort, no money from the sales and a broken camera to boot.
