Estonian Women's Gymnastics Championships, Apr 2005Event - Estonian women's individual and group gymnastics championships of 2005. I only managed to squeeze some 20 + 20 minutes of shooting time in-between various student days events. I was delighted to see that this time the organizers had put up some red drapes in the background. It served as an excellent bacgrdrop, but unfortunately it was so very narrow, that only a few shots could be taken against this background and some 90% of my shots were still wasted due the horrific bacground of the gym itself.
Phtography, conditions - Thanks to the red drapes, switching to shutter priority mode at 1/500s served me well this time. Even if the drapes are in focus, they don't bother. And since the Tamron 28-75 was automatically stopped down to F4 and below most of the time, I caught my first glimpse of what people actually mean when the say that this is a sharp lens:) Lesson learned - shutter priority mode for action is fine as long as the background does not possess the potential to become distracting even if in focus.
