Photography - The last frame to make it out of my camera before a permanent "ERR99" error message (a dead shutter) was number 196 130. Well, I almost made it to the 200 000 mark. By the way, the shutter is officially rated by Canon to be reliable up until 50 000 frames, so I've over-exploited it by a factor of four. 200 000 shots may seem enormous, but the conditions I usually shoot in are extremely unpredictable and uncontrollable, so that always requires an extra number of shots to get a few good ones. Additionally, if the 350D's low-light focusing wasn't so iffy, I wouldn't need to take 10 shots of each low-light scene just to get a few that are in focus. All of this combined can really rack up the shots. It is an absolute trooper of a camera though and I can't really blame it for breaking down after almost 200 000 shots. The price estimate I got from Canon for having the shutter replaced was $170, though I suspect it will end up closer to $200.
