A few days before the event my good friend Marin called and asked if I could come to her photo exhibition opening in Tallinn (she was the designer of the clothes used in the photos). Since I don't like traveling unless absolutely necessary, I thanked her for the invitation but said I'd consider it, but that I probably wouldn't be coming. She tried to add weight to her invitation by saying that she'd leave Estonia the very next morning for two months to work on a cruise boat. "Two months? Well no biggie", I thought to myself.

The very next day my good friend Indrek called and asked if I could come to his photo exhibition opening in Tallinn (he was one of the two photographers). Once again, I thanked him for the invitation but said I probably wouldn't be coming, since I was in another city. Well, Indrek threw in a different kind of weight to convince me - he'd pay me to come and take photos of the whole thing. I don't usually spring to action just because someone pays me to spring to action, but all these things combined - two of my friends having their photo exhibiton opening, one of them leaving the country for the next two months and the other one actually offering to pay me to come - convinced me to go anyway.

Once I got there and learned Marin wasn't leaving for two months but EIGHT months, I sure was glad I came. That's a huge difference and had I known it beforehand, I would have made up my mind much sooner. Probably even without the money:)
